Companions
The Sandhills of Nebraska
were once the bottom of an inland Seabefore blue Glaciers ground away
sturdy mountains to their ancient marrow
and let go their crushed debris onto
the dry basinbefore young Rockies surged
the Seabed communed with living watersTime presides through all
Over the arc of a day
the Sun retires
and draws long shadows into Dusk
then NightSeasons pass
Millenia pass
silently
even the Sky is a distant
witness
to the slumber of unmeasured timewaiting
waiting
for the Ocean to return
