The Krenek Sestinas

poetry by Don Mager

Intro - I - II - III - IV - V - VI

      a.
The old dissembler lurks behind the stage curtain.
Someone else is singing. Someone else keeps the score.
Alone in the desert, a man rotates and counts.
This entire century’s one long lamentation.
Fame’s a cunning bondage, only the old are free.
Go into the mountains. Make ideas complete.

      b.

This entire century, someone else keeps the score.
Fame’s a cunning bondage--one long lamentation.
Go into the mountains; a man rotates and counts.
